Privacy Policy

This policy explains what RiggingOps collects, why, how long we keep it, and how you can opt out. We've written it in plain language on purpose: no vague "we may share data with partners for business purposes" filler.

What We Collect Today

RiggingOps uses Google Analytics 4 (GA4) to understand which guides people actually read. This tells us page views, sessions, and approximate geography (city or region level, not a precise location), so we can prioritize the topics readers care about. GA4 does not log your full IP address. We also see what our hosting provider logs for basic server operation (request time and page requested: standard web server access logs, not tied to a personal profile).

We use this data in aggregate only, to see traffic trends across the whole site, not to build a profile of any individual visitor. We do not sell your data to anyone.

Your Privacy Choices

Analytics on this site runs under Google Consent Mode v2, which means the analytics cookie is switched on or off by a stored consent setting rather than always running. We'll be specific about what that means, because it isn't the same everywhere:

  • If you're in the EEA, the UK, Switzerland, Quebec, or Brazil: analytics storage starts denied. Nothing is stored and no analytics cookie is set unless you press Accept on the banner.
  • Everywhere else, including the rest of the US and Canada: analytics storage starts granted, because no equivalent consent-before-storage rule applies here. You'll still see the banner and can decline at any time.
  • Advertising signals are denied everywhere, for everyone, always. RiggingOps runs no ad network today, so there is nothing for them to do. If that ever changes, this page changes with it.

What declining actually does, precisely. It stops the analytics cookie being set, and stops anything that could identify you or link one visit to another. It does not make the page silent: Google still receives an anonymous, cookieless signal that a page was viewed, which it uses for aggregate estimates. That is how Consent Mode works everywhere it is deployed, not something particular to this site, and we'd rather tell you than let you discover it in a network tab. If you want nothing sent at all, the browser add-on or content blocker mentioned below does that.

Global Privacy Control. If your browser sends a GPC signal, we treat it as a decision you've already made: all analytics and advertising storage is denied, silently, and we don't show you a banner asking again. You don't have to do anything, and nothing about the site works differently because of it.

Your choice is stored in your browser's local storage underrigg_consent_v1, alongside the date you made it. It isn't a tracking identifier, it never leaves your device, and we can't see it. It expires after six months, at which point we ask again. To change your mind at any time, usehere or in the site footer.

Independently of any of the above, you can opt out with theGoogle Analytics opt-out browser add-on (opens in a new tab), or by using a content blocker. Either method stops GA4 from collecting data about your visit regardless of what this site does.

California Privacy Rights (CCPA/CPRA)

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. There is no ad network on this site, and the advertising signals described above are switched off for every visitor, in every country. It is enforced in the consent configuration itself, not a setting you have to find.

This section is our notice at collection under California law (Cal. Code Regs. tit. 11, section 7012). Here is what we collect, in plain terms:

  • Identifiers: your email address, if you sign up for our free printable guides or a future email list. The signup form is also protected against automated abuse with Cloudflare Turnstile, which processes a bot-detection challenge on your device as part of that submission; seeCloudflare's privacy policy (opens in a new tab).
  • Internet or network activity information:pages viewed, sessions, and approximate geography (city or region level), collected through Google Analytics 4 as described above.
  • Signup context: when you submit the email form we also record the page you signed up from, and whether your browser sent a Global Privacy Control signal. Both are stored with your email address in our own systems so we can see which guides actually help people, and so a privacy signal you send is kept on the record. Neither is sold, shared, or sent to an advertiser.

Purpose. We use identifiers to operate the email list: to deliver the guide you requested and send occasional updates. We use internet/network activity information for site analytics: to see which guides and calculators people actually use, so we know what to build next. Neither is used to build an individual profile of you, and neither is sold or shared with any third party for cross-context behavioral advertising.

Retention. See Data Retention below for how long we hold your email address. Analytics data is retained under whatever retention setting is configured for this property in Google Analytics; we do not extend that window or export the data into a separate profile.

Your rights. California residents have the right to:

  • know and access the specific pieces of personal information we hold about you;
  • request deletion of your personal information;
  • correct inaccurate personal information; and
  • not be discriminated against for exercising any of these rights: no fee, no degraded service, no denial of a download you'd otherwise get.

To exercise any of these rights, contact us via thecontact page (editor@riggingops.com) or by mail at RiggingOps, 31000 Lynx Lane, Prather, CA 93651. We don't require you to create an account or pay a fee to submit a request, and we'll respond within the timeframe California law requires.

Global Privacy Control. If your browser sends a GPC signal, we honor it as described in Your Privacy Choices above: analytics and advertising storage are denied automatically, with no separate request required.

Advertising Cookies (When Ads Are Enabled)

When RiggingOps runs display advertising, it will be through Google AdSense or a similar ad partner. Ad partners like Google use cookies and similar technology to serve ads based on your visits to this and other sites, and third-party vendors may use cookies to serve ads based on prior visits. This applies only once an ad partner is actually active on the site. If you're reading this before that's the case, no ad cookies are being set.

You can opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google's Ad Settings (opens in a new tab), or opt out of third-party vendor cookies for personalized advertising at aboutads.info (opens in a new tab).

Email List

If you sign up for our free printable recovery-kit assets or any future email list, we collect your email address to deliver those assets and send occasional updates: new guides and, uniquely to this niche, manufacturer spec changes or recalls affecting gear we cover. We use Resend as our email delivery processor; Resend processes your email address on our behalf under its own data processing terms and does not use your data for its own marketing. The signup form is also protected against automated abuse with Cloudflare Turnstile; Cloudflare processes the anti-bot challenge on your device as part of that submission (see Cloudflare's privacy policy (opens in a new tab)).

We do not sell, rent, or trade your email address to any third party. Every email includes a one-click unsubscribe link and our physical mailing address, and unsubscribing takes effect within minutes and is permanent: no "are you sure" dark patterns.

Data Retention

Email addresses are retained for as long as you're subscribed, and removed within 30 days of unsubscribing or a deletion request. Server access logs, if enabled by our hosting provider, follow that provider's standard retention window.

The signup context described above (the page you signed up from and whether your browser sent a Global Privacy Control signal) is stored alongside your email address in our own subscriber records, and is removed when that email address is removed. A copy is also written to an internal append-only activity log. That log is not purged automatically: we clear entries from it as part of handling a deletion request, which is a manual step. If you want the activity log cleared as well as your email address removed, say so when you contact us and we will confirm when it is done.

Requesting Deletion

To unsubscribe from email, use the link in any email we send. To request deletion of any other data we may hold about you, contact us via the contact page and we'll confirm deletion within a reasonable timeframe.

Children's Privacy

RiggingOps is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 13.

Changes to This Policy

If this policy changes in a way that affects what we collect or how we use it, we'll update the date at the top of this page. We don't expand data collection quietly.
