Every calculator here runs on the same sizing rules the guides cite, applied to whatever you enter rather than to a generic example. Each one shows the rule it used and links the manufacturer or standard it came from, so you can check the arithmetic instead of trusting a number a form handed you.
None of these replace your own gear's stamped rating. A calculator gives you the minimum a component needs to meet; the tag on the part in your hands is what actually governs.
Kit Builder

- Method:
- Winch: WARN's GVWR × 1.5. Rope: WARN's diameter classes, with MBS from Bubba Rope (3-4x curb weight) and ARB/MAXTRAX (2-3x GVW). Shackles: this site's vehicle-class mapping of manufacturer WLLs, from the shackle size guide.
- Limits:
- Starts from your model's published GVWR range, not your door-jamb placard. UTVs use WARN's seat-count capacity tiers and ATVs a class tier instead.
Kinetic Rope
Kinetic Rope Size Calculator
Enter your vehicle or its weight to get a diameter class and a minimum breaking strength target, plus the full published diameter chart by vehicle weight.
- Method:
- Diameter class from WARN's kinetic-rope brochure; MBS shown as two separate ranges, Bubba Rope's 3-4x curb weight and ARB/MAXTRAX's 2-3x GVW, never averaged.
- Limits:
- We found no published GVWR cutoff between diameter classes, so you pick the class, or skip it and get the MBS range alone. Results are minimums; your rope's tag governs.
Snatch Block

Enter your winch rating and pull configuration to get the minimum working load limit a block or recovery ring needs, including the doubled-line case.
- Method:
- A double-line pull loads the block with close to twice the winch's line pull (WARN, ARB). A redirect scales with the angle between the rope legs, 1.84x at 45° down to 1.00x at 120° (University of Extrication table).
- Limits:
- Some blocks publish only a bare "capacity", not a WLL; the tool cannot tell you what safety factor sits behind that number.
Soft Shackle

Enter your rope or winch line breaking strength to get the minimum soft shackle strength that matches it, so the shackle is never the weak link.
- Method:
- This site's match-or-exceed rule: the shackle's MBS should meet or beat the line's MBS. Yankum's published size chart is shown alongside, not blended in.
- Limits:
- The rule is this site's guidance, not a manufacturer formula. None of the five makers we checked publishes a "2x rope diameter" rule, so the tool uses none.
Pull Force
Recovery Pull Force Calculator
Estimate the force a stuck-vehicle recovery needs, using I4WDTA's published method: surface, gradient, damaged wheels and its own safety margin, with every term shown.
- Method:
- I4WDTA's Recovery Resistance Calculations (2020): ground condition, gradient and wheel-damage terms, plus the method's own 25% safety margin.
- Limits:
- Assumes four wheels and has no mire-depth multipliers beyond the method's bogged-to-the-axles footnote. It estimates resistance; it is not a rigging design factor.
