The trap: some spec sheets skip WLL entirely and publish only a bare "capacity" or "maximum capacity" number, with no disclosed safety-factor standard. Two of our own verified picks below do exactly this. WARN's Epic Snatch Block (93195) publishes only "rated capacity: for winches 18,000 lbs and under," CE rated with no ASME or BS 7901 figure disclosed. The Sizing Rule: Double-Line Loads and Redirect Angles

A double-line pull runs the winch line out to an anchored block or ring and back to a mounting point on the same vehicle. WARN's own double-line example: a 2,500-lb winch can effectively pull close to 5,000 lbs in this configuration, though "the winch itself isn't actually now a 5,000 lb. unit." Factor 55 frames the same trade the same way: a double-line pull provides up to twice the pulling power, using twice the line and moving at half the line speed. The block or ring doesn't see half that load, it sees both legs combined, which is why it needs to be rated at roughly double the winch's line pull, not equal to it. Crosby, a long-established rigging-hardware manufacturer whose guidance follows the ASME B30.26 industry standard, publishes exactly that math for its own snatch blocks: "The Total Load on Block = Line Pull x Angle Factor," with the Angle Factor at 2.00 when the two legs are in line at 0 degrees, the same convention as the angle table below.

A single-line redirect changes the rope's direction only and adds no pulling power, but the block still carries a load that depends on the angle between the two rope legs. Beyond 120 degrees, block load actually drops below either individual line's tension.
